Goodbye, Mister Clips: The Rise of the Longform GIF

When Jason Walter first created the r/HighQualityGifs subreddit in September 2013, he did so simply as a way to aggregate the GIFs he made in his spare time. GIFs hadn't yet become the juggernaut they are today: Facebook had just enabled them the month before, and Twitter wouldn't do so until that November. Even if you wanted to create one, the technical limitations of the form required a level of Photoshop skill to pull off something worthwhile. Preserving them, Walter thought, was just good sense. “In the beginning, there was maybe a two-megabyte limit or a ten-megabyte limit [depending on […]

New York (CNN)Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg believes the “#MeToo” movement will have “staying power” and that she doesn’t worry about a serious backlash. When Harlow pressed whether Congress was acting quickly enough, Ginsburg paused. “This Congress is not … I mean it’s been very hard even to keep the government going lately,” she said to laughter. “My hope is that Congress will think about people — where the United States population now is, and I am putting my faith in the millennials,” Ginsburg added. Harlow and Ginsburg held a wide-ranging discussion that also touched on sexism during the 2016 presidential […]

California Republican lawmaker Devin Nunes is no stranger to controversy or critical news coverage, having been branded a “stooge” for President Donald Trump by one of his own local newspapers. This might explain why he’s reportedly gotten into the news business himself. As Politico detailed on Sunday, Nunes’ campaign committee is bankrolling a conservative website under the title “The California Republican,” as is made clear in tiny text at the bottom of the website. The site, which promotes Nunes’ recent, controversial hobby horse effort to “release the memo,” also reportedly includes conservative news and analysis that has nothing specific to […]

Francisco Moreno / Unsplash Let’s face it this time of year kind of sucks, the weather, for most of us, keep getting colder and colder, to the point where you don’t even want to go outside. The year just started but we’ve already lost sight of our very ambitious new year’s resolutions, or we’ve stuck to them but the progress isn’t as visible or quick as we thought it may be. So, we sit there scrolling through Instagram torturing ourselves with a newsfeed full of tropical vacations, self-proclaimed Instagram models, and lavish “things,” causing us to sink deeper and deeper […]

Image: GC Images Kim Kardashian unleashing another NSFW image on her Instagram is pretty standard by now, but it’s not every day that photo is taken by one of her kids.  North, the eldest of the Kardashian-West family, has apparently taken up photography as a new hobby. And one of her models, as evidenced by Kim’s latest Instagram, is her semi-nude mother. SEE ALSO: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcome a baby girl The photo, showing Kim undressing (or is she getting dressed?) and a young North in the mirror, has elicited backlash from everyone trying to keep up.  📸 […]

A good way to put your photography skills to the test is to find an ugly location and try to make the best of it. Following on from a previous post, we have another photographer who has taken on the ‘ugly location challenge.’ Kelsey Maggert, 22, from Indiana has created some seriously awesome images with limited physical resources at her disposal. Coming from a small town, unremarkable in its ordinariness, Kelsey has to use all her creativity to maximize the potential of her backdrops. She can make the local KFC, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and a variety of gas stations into […]
